John Hohman, as a founding principal of MetroMix, is enjoying a long, successful career in music and media. Born, raised, and based in Pittsburgh, Pa., Hohman and MetroMix have been pioneers of the DJ art form, the radio mix show, the record remix, DJ software, and video remixes. And, as you will see from his extensive bio, versatility is his trademark.

It began in 1984 with freelance editing, production, and DJing at Automatt Studios and KITS-FM in San Francisco. Soon after, MetroMix’s CHR mixshow was first broadcast in 1985 on WYDD-FM, Pittsburgh, and a career in radio was born – a succession of shows followed.

In 1989, MetroMix’s urban Hohman & Harris House Party mixshow aired on legendary WAMO-FM. In 1990, MetroMix’s Rhythm/Crossover mixshow launched on Mix Jamz 100.7 WMXP-FM. From 2012 through 2016, MetroMix was also aired on The Beat 104.7, 96.1 Kiss FM and on Q92.9 FM WLTJ – it’s now on KRYC Rhythm 105.9 FM and MIX93 FM.com.

These programs have also been carried on stations across the United States and, as additional music radio formats and new musical genres have become popular, MetroMix radio shows have been created and produced weekly for several music formats and niches (including but not limited to AC, Rock, Country, Electronica and “Jammin’Oldies”). Hohman has also served as a Billboard magazine Dance Chart reporter for the Pittsburgh club and radio market since 1987.

Recently, Hohman created a weekly dance countdown show, The MetroMix Top 15 Dance Countdown with John Hohman, which includes “The Top 15 Dance Songs in America.” He’s also presently airing on WXIL MY 95FM, WHTI Hot 105.7 FM, KRYC Rhythm 105.9FM and KLZY Jamz 99.3FM.

Hohman also became a fixture of the Pittsburgh region’s club scene, maintaining residencies at some of the area’s top venues, including VIP, Heaven, Confetti, Metropol,
Coconuts, W.P. Nix, Europa, Angel’s, Network, The Magic Twanger, Rock Jungle, Bongos, Touch, Chauncy’s, Matrix, Velvet, Exit, Liquid, Goddess, Cake, and Cavo. Hohman can also be seen and heard DJing at private events.

Hohman’s rich musical history has also seen him perform around the country in major markets like New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Miami Beach,
in tops clubs like Glam Slam, Palladium, Centro-Fly, Chaos, Level, and M.

He’s also performed in larger venues like Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh, Staples Convention Center in Los Angeles, the Exposition Center in Frankfurt, Germany, Le
Palais de Congres in Cannes, France, and Madison Square Garden in New York City. A highlight performance was on VH1’s “Divas” TV Special, where Hohman performed
as a member of the Chic band, which, under the musical direction of Nile Rodgers, backed Diana Ross, Donna Summer, Mariah Carey, and Destiny's Child.

In October, 2000, Hohman and his former creative/business partner were proclaimed “MP3 Pioneers” on the cover of DJ Times magazine, and were recognized for their early adoption and use of digital music files and for their contribution to the development
of PCDJ, one of the most advanced DJ software programs of its day.

Hohman’s other pioneering efforts include video remixes, as he’s scored with such disparate artists like Kylie Minogue, The Killers, Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull.

An early record remixer, Hohman also has an impressive list of remixes, including a 1984 effort, using razor and tape, for Double Entente’s “Sleeping Dogs Lie,” a Randy
Jackson-produced single on Columbia Records.

Subsequently, in the digital age, MetroMix completed many fully produced remixes for a variety of major and independent labels for such renowned artists as Diana Ross, Janet Jackson, Jennifer Hudson, Ricky Martin ,Jennifer Lopez and Debbie Gibson all with Billboard dance No. 1 status.

MetroMix’s greatest remix success was for SONY Records/So So Def recording artist Jagged Edge’s 2000 single “Let’s Get Married,” for which Hohman received co-writing credit. The maxi-single, featuring a MetroMix disc, was the No. 1-selling maxi-single on the Billboard Maxi-Single Retail Sales charts for four weeks, in addition to receiving chart-topping radio airplay, pushing Jagged Edge into Triple Platinum sales and becoming Billboard's No. 5 Retail Sales Maxi-Single of the Year.
